About Us

Welcome to OLTJEN ORTHODONTICS

The Oltjen Experience

At Oltjen Orthodontics, it's the smallest things that make the biggest difference. A genuine interest in our patients' lives, monitoring the phases of orthodontics with care and precision, and paying close attention to the final details of each treatment are what makes Oltjen Orthodontics not just a good practice, but a great practice!

What Makes Oltjen Orthodontics Unique?

Expertise and Excellence:
Dr. Oltjen is board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics, a distinction earned by less than half of practicing orthodontists. His expertise in the field of orthodontics is what sets us apart from other practices. Why is this important? Because it signifies that Dr. Oltjen has gone above and beyond the regular criteria required to become and orthodontist and has received additional training and testing to achieve this status.
In addition, he is a Diplomate of the American Board Of Orthodontist. The final "e", at the end of Diplomate, is significant in that it implies the highest plateau of attainment in education, evaluation, excellence, and ethics.

Advanced Technology:
We were the first practice in K.C. to use iCat, 3D CBCT technology for treatment evaluation. With 3D imaging, the Dr. can see the teeth and roots from all angles, including behind the teeth. He can also evaluate how the sinuses and airway impact tooth and jaw growth. This translates to superior treatment planning. We also rely on proven, traditional methods while at the same time searching for better ways to improve our procedures to make your orthodontic treatment as efficient as possible.

Patient Satisfaction:
We pride ourselves in providing the best in patient satisfaction. Patient service is extremely important to Dr. Oltjen and our team - on-time appointments, flexible hours, customized payment plans, and complimentary consultations (including X-rays and diagnostic records). Want to know what our patients think about us? Check our our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/oltjenbraces, there you will see reviews and star ratings from our raving fans!

Meet Our Doctor

Meet DR. JAY OLTJEN

I take a tremendous amount of pride in what I do because I believe that orthodontics has a significant and lasting impact on people's lives. A great smile builds confidence and a good bite is important to your overall health. My patients are wonderful and make my job fun, which is very important to me. They also understand the importance of orthodontic treatment and the value they are receiving in a beautiful, healthy smile.

Building a Foundation

My education gave me a strong base of knowledge that I am able to pass on to my patients. I attended Kansas State University for my undergraduate degree before continuing on to the University of Texas in San Antonio where I earned my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. I received my specialty Certificate in Orthodontics and Masters degree from the University of Oklahoma.

I spend an extraordinary amount of time in continuing education because the more knowledgeable and current about what orthodontic research is saying, the better clinician it makes me. I am the orthodontic advisor to the Great Plains Study Club, a chapter of the Seattle Study Club, a national and prestigious study club. I also participate in new product research and development for 3M, a company that makes the very best products available to orthodontists. I am an active member of the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, and am a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.

Outside the Office

I was raised on a farm near Hiawatha, a small Kansas town. I currently reside in the Leawood area with my wife, Rita, our three children, William, Elizabeth, and Jane, and our dog, Quinn. When I'm not in the office I enjoy playing golf, sport fishing, and traveling.
